EA changes the game with NBA Elite, a reinvented brand of basketball that aims to revolutionize how gamers take to the court. The game introduces several significant gameplay changes that center around user control. 'Hands-On Control' scheme allows for one-to-one responsiveness of a player's movement and actions on the court, as opposed to traditional predetermined animations that require users to wait while a scenario played out before making the next move. Hands-on Control applies to everything within a player's offensive and defensive arsenal, including: dribble moves, dunks, drives to the basket, fadeaways, mid-air adjustments, blocks, steals and more.
The real-time physics system in NBA Elite 11 allows each player on the court to move independently of one another, removing the two-man interactions that have long taken the user control out of basketball simulation videogames. In addition, a skill-based shooting system requires accurate user input, based on a player's position on the court, versus the randomly generated dice rolls that have driven shooting in basketball videogames in the past.
The game also comes bundled with a one-time download code for a customized version of the 2010 edition of NBA Jam, created as a bonus for NBA Elite buyers and featuring high-definition visuals.

Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter says rival NBA 2K11 will capture most of the 1.1 million sales he had previously expected from EA Sports' new hoops sim franchise this year.
Ordinarily in basketball, a delay of game penalty costs a team no more than a free throw and possession of the ball. But when the delayed game is NBA Elite 11, the punishment could be more severe.
The money EA loses through its NBA Elite 11 delay could top these guys' combined salaries.
In a note to investors, Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter said the delay could cost publisher Electronic Arts as much as $60 million. Pachter lowered his holiday quarter revenue projections for the publisher from $1.52 billion to $1.46 billion, reflecting the loss of 1.1 million sales of NBA Elite 11.
Perhaps worse, Pachter thinks the game's 2011 first quarter sales will now be less than before, even with the game presumably launching in that window. In revising his figures, Pachter said he only expects the game to sell 500,000 copies at launch. When NBA Elite 11 was still set for an October launch, Pachter had expected sales of 550,000 for the January to March quarter. He even raised the prospect of it being canceled outright.
Those sales won't disappear completely. Pachter said most of the sales NBA Elite would have claimed will now be taken by Take-Two Interactive's NBA 2K11. While the delay has caused EA to release NBA Jam as a stand-alone product on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this holiday season, Pachter said the arcade-style title is "not a true substitute" for NBA Elite 11.
Built around a more "hands-on control" scheme than its NBA Live predecessors, NBA Elite 11 will emphasize player movement and skill-based shooting. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
